Durant la seconde guerre mondiale les Allemands ont construit 4 gros blockhaus, quasiment identiques, sur les hauteurs des hôpitaux Léon Bérard et San Salvadour. Ces constructions avaient vraisemblablement pour but d'interdire le golfe de Giens (tombolo Ouest) et les plages de l'Almanarre. D'autres petits blockhaus existent autour.
